Rell Proposes Lending Pool--
Gov. Jodi Rell (R) will push for a five-part bank reform plan that includes a loan pool of $1 million or more for small businesses temporarily struggling to qualify for loans. The loan pool would be funded by community banks across the state.

Georgia
Job Losses Lead Nation--
Georgia lost 26,200 jobs in August, more than any other state, the U.S. Labor Department reported. The unemployment rate surged to a 15-year high of 6.3%, putting it above the national average for seven straight months, the longest period in three decades.

Michigan
Builders Push Tax Breaks--
The Michigan Association of Home Builders wants the state to give tax breaks to people who remodel their homes or businesses to increase energy efficiency. It recommends tax incentives of up to $10,000 per commercial or industrial building and $3,000 per home.

Nevada
Sales Tax Revenue Drops--
Nevada received more bleak economic news when the Department of Taxation reported a 5.2% drop in the sales of taxable products by businesses in the state. Sales of taxable products in July were $3.78 billion, down from $3.99 billion in July 2007.

North Carolina
Health Coverage Dwindles--
North Carolina is losing employer-based health insurance faster than nearly any other state in the country, according to the Economic Policy Institute. About 59% of state residents under 65 had employer-based health insurance in 2007 compared to 67% in 2000. The national average in 2007 was 63%.
