Energy Institute Starts Grassroots Effort Focused on Education, Solutions
Local chambers of commerce and business associations have an important role to play in the national energy debate, according to officials from the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy.
During an April 29 conference call, Gen. Jim Jones (ret.) called on the 140 dial-in attendees to educate the public, Congress and other policymakers on “energy realities” and help the Institute form and implement a consensus comprehensive energy policy by 2030.
Over the past year, the Institute has worked to make energy a priority for the next administration, reaching out to the candidates on both sides of the aisle. The Institute is also working to convince Congress of the need for a comprehensive energy solution based on logic, bipartisanship, and technology. Finally, the Institute has reached out to engage other countries on energy policy, including agreeing to co-host an energy forum with China in Beijing May 20-21.
The Institute plans to release a report in June detailing the nation’s energy challenges and providing recommended solutions.
