Arizona Immigration Case Begins
A U.S. District judge considered arguments last week in a case brought by immigration rights and business groups, including the U.S. Chamber's National Chamber Litigation Center, opposed to Arizona's new anti-immigration law.
The state law scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1 would make mandatory currently voluntary compliance with the flawed federal employment verification system, also known as E-Verify. The new law would also suspend and revoke a business' license if an employer is found to have hired an undocumented worker, without providing an opportunity for a hearing. A ruling on the Arizona case is expected in early December.
