The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has a singular focus in 2010--advancing policies that will create jobs and get the economy moving again. In fact, we'll need to create 20 million jobs in the next decade to restore those lost during the recession and keep up with a growing population. This is the most urgent task facing the American people, who have been hit hard by this devastating recession.
Government can help in times of trouble, but in the long run, only free enterprise can create the jobs we need. American free enterprise--based on individual initiative, hard work, freedom of choice, and the free exchange of trade, capital, and ideas--has been the greatest job-creating machine in history. It can meet today's job challenge, but only if we have the policies allowing it to work its wonders.
That's why the Chamber is kicking our American Free Enterprise. Dream Big. campaign into high gear this year. We are reminding all Americans that job-creating free enterprise requires trade policies to allow us to double our exports in five years; fiscal responsibility to prevent the growing government from stifl ing the free economy; infrastructure policies to free up private capital to repair roads, bridges, and power lines; tax reform to encourage investment and growth; and education changes to better prepare workers for 21st century jobs.
We launched this campaign with national advertising and more than 80 events from coast to coast. The response has been tremendous. Through our free enterprise Web site, Facebook page (15,000 fans and counting), and Twitter and YouTube presence, it's clear that the free enterprise message strikes a powerful chord in troubled times. More than 300,000 Americans have signed up to support free enterprise, and we expect the numbers to grow as we carry the campaign to communities throughout the nation.
America is at a crossroads--faced with a choice between ever-expanding government or policies based on free enterprise values. We intend to see that our country makes the right choice, and that we always remember that free enterprise is the best source of the jobs, innovation, and opportunities that we urgently need.
2010 must become the year of free enterprise--the year when Americans get back to their roots, back to work, and back on the right track. We experienced some dark days in 2009, and, at times, it seemed like the government was running the economy. But the economy belongs to us--the American people. We can steer its direction and usher in its renewal. We invite you to join our campaign by going to www.FreeEnterprise.com.

What about bringing our manufacturing back home instead of sending it all overseas! This could create the greatest number of jobs for all education levels. Get the large manufacturing companies to bring home the plants that were moved overseas. There certainly are enough empty buildings to relocate to. And enough out of work people willing to work at almost anything! (Stafford, VA)
This is a huge element of any formula for reinvigorating american employment.....2 things will need to happen for this to work: 1) The american worker will need to accept "fair" compensation that is competitive with the nations currently stealing our maufacturing jobs 2) Our federal government needs to quit taxing industry out of our country, we need a simple tax system that taxes consumer spending, not earnings or holdings. (Safford, AZ)
Really! I am actually surprised this has been said and put in print.
Unbelievable that we the people know what we should do, but yet we keep putting idiots in Washington!! Do you know I just recieved a survey from the GOP asking me what they should do and how they should vote, no Steve my friend we need to first clean house!! You know some of these guys think its something to be proud of to have served 20 years in congress, HELLO! If I served 20 years in a private company and it was in the shape our goverment is in now don't you think the stock holders would have fired me long ago, taxpayers don't make good stock holders and the goverment has a endless supply of investors, how many people are in China? (Suwanee, Ga.)
It isa fort created from centuries, and in this fort, there is a nexus, whether this is US or Non UScountries, the people, are one and the same, who doesnt allow new developemnts to get built. The values need to find its tough way. (Bangalore, India)
Nancy, it is unreasonable to think we can bring lost manufacturing jobs back! As Americans, we need to understand the mechanics of business and consumerism to get "why China" for manufacturing.
What we must do is stop the decline of the family structure, raise our children with a greater sense of purpose and we need to embrace to TRUE of definition of capitalism in order for this country to maintain its competitiveness worldwide.
Also, we should vote for two-faced politicians and become activist consumers voting with our wallets when we don't like major corporate actions that, along with government, are taking the wind out of small businesses worldwide.
If we don't embrace this new reality we will be the largest third world country before your grandchildren have children. (San Diego, CA)
You are 100% on the mark - Now convince Obama, Reid & Polosi (Winston Salem, NC)
Just a reminder Tom: your highly esteemed free enterprise and free market economy caused the horrible recession. Also, bringing the jobs home is a contradiction to your free market economy agenda. The much despised government sure came in handy after the free and unregulated enterprise screwup. Try to think outside the dogma-box! (Pasadena, CA)
Sir , No sir , it is the vested interested gaints induced it to happen, not allowing the united way of functioing to build.Acooperative united effort can bring all back. (India, India)
The American public is not stupid; however, sometimes we need help in understanding why Free Enterprise jobs are better wealth generators to the economy than Government jobs. Jobs created through profit-generating Free Enterprise, creating value-added goods and services, ultimately stimulate more employment than the original job, multiplying the positive effect to the economy. Government job creation is a cost to the nation versus a wealth generator. (Missoula, Montana)
The number one best solutions to putting Americans to work would be the reestablishment of the Investment Tax Credit on American Made Goods only and the restoration of the tax credit for adding employees to your payroll in the United States up to 1/2 of the maximum FUTA wages over the preceding year. These would both stimulate the adding of full time employees to the payrolls of American Business. Incidentally it will encourage investment by those companies finding work rebuilding infrastructure. (Ocala, Florida)
The failure of the National Chamber to take a strong stance against ILLEGAL immigrants continues to frustrate me. I know no one against legal immigration. But those who have flouted our laws, broken into our country and have taken jobs from Americans need to be routed out and sent home -- wherever that might be. How many jobs would that "create." (Waco, Texas)
please develop a proper tool in exploring such immigrants, and forward this to all your US embassies, allover the world, .if not keep track of them , tackle them , in personal capacity. good logistics & tools can support you. (India, India)
Here's a novel idea: for the next year, instead of corporate executives taking massive bonuses, give the bonus money to all employees. They can use this money to buy American-made goods. Or make mortgage payments. Or to spend to kick-start the economy. I saw stats recently that over the past decade, worker productivity increased but payroll had stagnated. I think workers deserve a break after putting up with this decade, especially January 2001-January 2009. (Rockville, MD)
Moreso after September 11, 2001 our economy was in need of dire recovery. Therefore, thereafter began one on slot SLIDE after another:

A golden opportunity to increase jobs will be in the Alternative Energy arena. The technologies available are more than the average person is aware of. The problem is going from a good idea/technology to implementation. The governament could helpl in the way of offering grants to promising technologies, but more so by connecting Angel and VC's to inventors. Many inventors do not have the entrepreneurial and/or management skills to implement their excellent ideas.
These technologies could stimulate the economy in a similar manner to the dot com boom of the nineties. It would also help us become independent of foreign oil sources. (Irvine, California)
Sir, your idea of alternative energy is welcoing but how much fund, who willput, and what form of renewabl energy, if this is minihydro, wind, solar, biomass, biogas, cogen, all said and done it will last upt the proejctis planned and constructted.,unless and unless the required money is availableplease forard us your interests for our plans in India. (Bangalore, India)
Great questions, but will our comments do any good? Nevertheless:
1) fairtax.org
2) support bottom-up; not trickle-down economics
3) end our imperialistic, nation-building activities quickly and efficiently
4) end practices like China's intellectual property theft
5) shrink government at all levels and increase efficiencies (Hillsborough, NJ)
Expand free trade, if not with Columbia, then Cuba.
Cut the payroll tax by one percent or more.
Cut the minimum wage by 50 cents.
Make the Bush tax cuts permanent.
Get rid of the corporate tax.
Get rid of the capital gains tax.
Make the current tax code flatter.
Allow health insurance companies to compete across state lines. (Omaha, Nebraska)
I AGREE COMPLETELY. IF THESE THINGS YOU SUGGESTED WERE IMPLEMENTED IT WOULD HELP BUSINESS TO GET BACK ON TRACK. (SPRINGDALE, ARKANSAS)
I believe as a Chamber member we need to express to Washington that we are appreciative of all the help they are providing to our business ecosystem. We can see the benefits and the real progress of what the Stimulus Fundings has done to stabilize our financial system that our Industry Framework is hardwired into and the results are bringing confident in the real work for the sake of running a business. Without any response from the Government would have been frutile and we must show gratitude and in turn we must return the gift of hiring and putting more people working and increase our human resource partisipating in the business of economic expansion so recovery will become a success. We must show as the USChamber membership that we are also playing the same deck of cards of improving and fixing our economy so we never going to see this problem again unless it will be a planned resession. (Lihue, Hawaii)
Tom,
My name is Harvey Carroll, Jr.. For over 25 years I have dealt with local, state, national and international politics. In the process I have saved millions of lived and affected the economic fate of nations. The past 8 years I got out of the loop and the world sort of went to economic hell.. I have a plan that would turn that around and meet and/or exceed the 20 million jobs that you have envisioned... I look forward to you contacting me on facebook and/or emailing me at TheEmailDiplomat@aol.com
Thank you,
Harvey Carroll, Jr. (Irvine, Kentucky)
vijayaillu, India can build & develop such plans thankful if you could forward us your plans,to halliindia@gmail.com (Bangalore, India)
The government can only help by getting out ot the way. All of the current and proposed legislation is creating a welfare state and killing free enterprise. Lower taxes, smaller and limited goverment, lower and fewer taxes, term linits and the elimination of campaign contributions by special interest orgniztionsations are all a MUST. The "everything and everybody is for sale game" must stop or we are doomed.. (Ridgefield, CT)
It is the united planning & working, is the simple formula . please find if this can support, The jobs could get created, if there is a domestic market plan ,mainly for product plan, or have the choice by getting this done we could be instrumental .please find the tools of planning we would suggest & render you our support :
Money to support assurance Assurance , need to support planning Develop Plan to produce Cooperation and support to win the plan, with options Plan on the basis of assurance of money
But money to come form FI’s Produce go to
the most needed plans to be built & identified But produce to follow the field reality of needs, than just business houses projections, need to upgrade.
